We are often asked the difference between coffins and caskets and the answer is simple. The difference is basically one of design. Coffins are tapered at the head and foot and are wide at the shoulders. Caskets are usually contructed of better quality timbers and feature higher standards of workmanship. Many people regard the coffin or casket as an important tribute to the deceased and they are therefore selected with care.
Choosing a coffin or casket is an important aspect of arranging a funeral. At Burdekin Funerals we understand that everyone’s preferences and needs are different. Therefore we have a range of coffins and caskets for you to choose from that cater to your budget and personal choice.
Coffins: are tapered – narrow at the head, widest at the shoulders and tapered in towards the foot. These are made from timber-veneer, custom wood, composite board, solid timber and enviro-board and come in a wide variety of colours and finished. The base only is lined normally in a plisse or satim trim.
Caskets: are rectangular and come in a range of designs, have a either fully hinged or half hinged lid and are solid timber and come in a variety of colours and finishes. Caskets are also fully lined usually in silk including the lid.
Burdekin Funerals can also have any coffin personalised with your own decal design and wherever possible we will endeavour to meet all requests made by our client families.
Whichever coffin or casket you decide upon, special design, MDF or solid timber, they are all hand crafted by specialists using premium grade material so that you can be confident you are getting the very best and we are proud to say ALL our range is Australian Made.
